My work is writing monte carlo simulations on the moderator and sample part of neutron experiments. I have created a simulation specifically for investigating how the surface geometry can effect the neutron output of the moderator and thereby optimize the geometry for a given purpose.
Using the skills I learned from that task, I am checking the McStas code for multiple scattering in the sample against a modified version of my own simulation code to find and understand differences between the simulations. If i find any differences, the reason for these will be investigated and the best possible solution for the McStas will be found.
In the future, the moderator simulation which i made will be incorporated into McStas as a component so for example guide extraction simulations can be more realistic.
