Work done in the simulation group:

  • Looking at preliminary simulation of macromolecular diffractometer for the ESS.
  • Updating McStas guide and tutorial.
  • Creating and managing homepage at www.ess-scandinavia.dk using the CMS Joomla.
  • Layout of instrument reports in TeX.
  • Brilliance calculations for ISIS moderators based on components created by S. Ansell and D. Champion.

Background:

I have worked with magnetic materials, both nanometer-sized and bulk, for many years.

My master thesis explored interactions between nanoparticles of antiferromagnetic (AFM) materials by examining the superparamagnetic relaxation of ferrihydrite by interactions with CoO nanoparticles. The study was done using Mössbauer spectroscopy.

After obtaining my M.Sc. degree, I spent 18 months at the Paul Scherrer Institute, Switzerland, where I studied the quantum magnet, NiCl2·4SC(NH2)2 (DTN) and the multiply-frustrated spin-lattices of SrHo2O4 and SrDy2O4 using neutron scattering.

Following my time at PSI, I obtained a Ph.D. in Physics at the Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy. My thesis was on magnetocaloric materials for magnetic refrigeration and the experimental work was mainly done using a LakeShore magnetometer.
